David Sielaff, a frequent Oregon MUFON meeting attendee and lay Bible scholar, delivered a presentation at the March 2009 Oregon MUFON meeting. He talked about the famous sociological study of an occult/New Age flying saucer contactee group from the 1950s. Leon Festinger made his name on this study and published his ideas in a book, When Prophecy Fails . Sielaff pointed up some problems with the study and indicated that some of its conclusions are not accepted sociological theory today. The group was "infiltrated" not only by Festinger's own assistants but also by other people suspected today of having U.S. intelligence connections, namely a mysterious "Dr. Armstrong."
