Oregon MUFON State Director Tom Bowden has decided to step down after serving more than 20 years as Oregon MUFON state director—the longest tenure of any state director of Oregon MUFON. He headed up our chapter of the national MUFON organization as state director from the beginning of his service.

Over the years, Tom trained and served as a manager and consultant to over 50 MUFON field investigators while also working many cases himself. During his time, Oregon MUFON investigated and logged hundreds of cases. Most were IFOs but quite a number were judged to be genuine unknowns.
Tom was also the public face of MUFON in Oregon. He gave many talks about UFOs to audiences around the state. And he occasionally appeared on local TV and in print media.
Each year, he attended the annual MUFON symposium, and with fellow state directors learned about the many positive changes corporate MUFON made in his 20 years. These included implementing a greatly enhanced field investigator training program, adding a general UFO education program for the public, organizing and operating the Experiencer Resource Team (ERT) for abductees and experiencers, and starting MUFON TV programming and the MUFON global observers social network, along with other innovative programs. Tom also served on the ERT.
Just this year, MUFON corporate honored Tom by awarding him the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. We wish Tom the best and congratulate him for a job well done in his two decades leading Oregon MUFON. We will miss him.
